MILWAUKEE – female pitcher Veronique Walinski is the Blue and Gold Student-Athlete of the Month for September 2022, chosen by the Varsity and Student Programs staff at Marquette Athletics.

Walinski is in her fourth year of the exercise physiology program and is a member of the Marquette University women’s track and field team. She has earned BIG EAST Academic Honors, College of Health Sciences Dean’s List, and Athletic Director’s Honor Roll in every semester of her career at Marquette. She is inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma, the honor society for collegiate athletes.

Additionally, Veronica is involved with SHAPE (Student Health Allies & Peer Educators) for the promotion of mental health and wellness, and participated in an NCAA-funded longitudinal study with Dr. Lee Za Ong on the impact of mindfulness. Veronica has also translated the results of this learning into relevant use with injury recovery in the field of exercise physiology.

This summer, Veronica searched for study abroad opportunities and found a program in Poland, where she has family and cultural roots. She applied for the program and, thanks to it, obtained a scholarship to study at the Jagiellonian University in Poland. She returned with a new understanding of global health, especially in Eastern European countries, and how patient care is both the same and different in other parts of the world. She is looking to integrate her learning this summer into her current studies, with a focus on global health and wellness.
