The Herkimer County Industrial Development Agency, in partnership with KK&P, a New York-based food systems consulting firm, will host a public engagement session to discuss the results of a recently administered food processing study. The session will take place at the Herkimer County Community College Sarkus-Bush Theater on June 2 from 6-8 p.m. IDA of Herkimer County worked with KK&P to complete a food processing study to assess and target growth opportunities in the food manufacturing sector in Herkimer County.
These results matter! – The results of this food processing study are critical to Herkimer County and will help identify and recruit food manufacturing industries and businesses that could benefit from Herkimer County’s many strengths. These findings will aid in decision-making across the county in the future and impact the overall growth of the food manufacturing market.
Significance of this Study – In 2020, Herkimer County received a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) award. This award was to be used to conduct a study assessing economic development opportunities related to food processing and manufacturing in the county. Herkimer County IDA used this CDBG grant to fund a food processing market study to address the growing need for programs that support the agriculture industry. This study will assist in the development and implementation of strategies that will contribute to the growth and expansion of food and agricultural businesses in Herkimer County.
Join the Public Session – Not only is this session a way to present the study results, but it’s also a way for local residents to share their thoughts on the future of food processing. The primary goal of this study is to better equip the county for success in the future, and we need your support and opinions on the food processing study to plan for future development.
