In my opinion: Ready2Create program gives workers skills and experience | Opinion

The North Country is full of career and manufacturing opportunities. Jobs have never been so plentiful or well paid. Careers in manufacturing offer top-notch benefits, an innovative culture, and career growth that are hard to find in other industries. But how do you get started in this industry? Whether you are just starting out in your career or ready for a change in industry, it can be intimidating to work in an entirely new field. This is where ETS and Ready4Real can help – with their new manufacturing training program, Ready2Create.

Ready2Create offers an immersive training experience for the most demanded technical and job preparation skills in the manufacturing industry. The 8 week program is accessible to a wide range of community members, giving them the confidence they need to start their careers. Ready2Create offers 100 hours of training in professional and life skills such as communication, emotional intelligence, time management, and financial literacy. It also includes in-depth and hands-on technical training, such as safety and use of hand tools, 3D design and modeling, manufacturing processes, and electronic programming. Participants successfully pass the certifications for the National Work Readiness Diploma, OSHA 10, and Sexual Harassment Prevention during the program.

This tuition-free program has helped participants remove some of the barriers that might be associated with starting a new job. In addition to being free to attendees, Ready2Create offers unprecedented support to all attendees who need it. Assistance with rent, childcare, transportation and clothing will be provided to qualified participants to help participants have peace of mind so that they can focus on the program and the new opportunities that arise. available to them. All of this in preparation for the sustained work experience portion of the program. As students are matched with a company and a job, the Ready2Create team provides 6 weeks of support, making for a smooth transition.

The ability to find a good job and become mobile upwards requires more than skills and ambition – gaining confidence and identifying transferable skills is essential. Ready2Create gives students access to relevant and actionable information to navigate professional transitions and journeys beyond the workplace.

Ready2Create’s inaugural 8-week session ended in August 2021 and served a wide range of community members – recent high school graduates, people re-entering the workforce, and people choosing manufacturing as their new career. Graduates have found jobs at local companies such as Mold-Rite, CAMSO, The Northeast Group, Salerno, and even CVPH’s UVM Network. The Ready2Create program has boosted the Plattsburgh community in many ways: by creating strategic talent pools to meet the business and industrial needs of the North (even by dispelling some manufacturing myths and offering a comprehensive overview of the myriad of roles and careers available in the field!); help people find work and succeed; and deepening positive community relationships.

The next Ready2Create session will take place in January. The course will be open to anyone wishing to explore new opportunities in the manufacturing sector.
